School governing board chairperson who burglarised own school stays in police custody.
The governing body chairperson of Nellmapius primary school, who was allegedly caught red-handed by the police while breaking into and stealing from his own school, appeared in court today.
It is alleged that the chairperson – together with another school governing board member, a community policing forum member and three general workers at the school – broke into the school on Wednesday to steal food and stationery.

Police were called to the scene where they found the alleged perpetrators in possession of the stolen goods. They were arrested on the spot.
“We are concerned that the same people who are supposed to safeguard school and its property are the ones implicated in the theft,” the department of education said.

“I will request the head of the department to investigate the governing body of this school and to probably disband them,” said Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi.
“We are committed to uphold values of integrity and accountability; and as such we will ensure everyone in the schooling environment subscribe to high ethical standards.”
