St Mary’s Diocesan School for Girls achieved a 100% bachelor degree pass rate.
Hannah Venter was the school’s top learner for the class of 2017 with eight distinctions in Afrikaans, English, French, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics, physical sciences and advanced programme mathematics.
She plans to study linguistics at Edinburgh University in Scotland.
“I’ve always loved languages and learning about the sciences and linguistics is the perfect combination of both of these interests.”
Venter’s hobbies and interests are reading, photography and cinematography.
Hannah Newman obtained seven distinctions in Afrikaans, English, information technology, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics and physical science.

She will study for a degree in actuarial and financial mathematics at the University of Pretoria.
“I am excited to begin a new chapter of my life, as a university student. I hope not only to achieve pleasing results, but also to enjoy every moment of my degree and student life. I also plan to continue on with my triathlon training at the Tuks sporting grounds with my coaches Kate Roberts and Rocco Meiring.”
Newman is very passionate about multisport, specifically triathlon (swim, cycle, run).
“I have been doing competitively, competing at SA Championships, for five years now. I have high sporting ambitions, with a goal to one day become an elite South African triathlete, competing on the international circuit, representing my country and becoming a sports ambassador,” she said.
Agoritsa Spirakis obtained seven distinctions in accounting, Afrikaans, English, information technology, life orientation, mathematics and physical sciences.

She will be studying electrical and computer engineering at the University of Cape Town.
“My hobbies include reading, theatre and walking my dogs”.
Shannon Strydom obtained seven distinctions in accounting, Afrikaans, English, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics and physical sciences.
She has been accepted to study industrial engineering at the University of Pretoria.
“I am very interested in maths, science and journalism. My hobbies include singing, dancing and reading.”
