The woman who was arrested for fraud after presenting an alleged fake teacher’s qualification documents has been released.
Lyttelton police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said the case could not stand before the court because of lack of evidence.
“The docket was sent back to the police for further investigation. Once that is concluded, the matter will be put back before the court.
“The suspect was released on Friday, pending that investigation.”
Miller said the date of the next court appearance will depend on how soon the police would conclude their investigations.
The teacher, who is in her twenties, was arrested last week at the office of the South African Council for educators (Sace) in Centurion.
Council’s spokesperson Themba Ndhlovu said it was the sixth such arrest this year.

“She was arrested for presenting fraudulent qualifications with the intent of registering as a teacher.
“If six people get arrested within a month, it means there are more teachers in the system with fraudulent qualifications,” Ndhlovu said.
He said teaching with fraudulent qualifications was a serious offence that could lead to imprisonment.
“We would like to appeal to schools to be vigilant in identifying such individuals.”
The Gauteng department of education has not responded to queries on the extent of the problem in the province.
