‘Hijack victim’ robbers nabbed in the north of Pretoria

The alleged robbers ran to the police station and reported they had been hijacked

Two alleged robbers fleeing “mob justice” ran to the Rietgat police station for protection at the weekend – only to be arrested.

The two men were part of a group of three criminals which is believed to be behind a spate of recent crimes in Soshanguve.

The mob stopped the car the men were driving, smashed the windows forcing the occupants out.

Two escaped to the police station where they told police they had been hijacked in Block T.

The third man was caught by the mob, stripped naked and beaten to death with “all sorts of objects”, according to police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka.

However, the police investigating the “hijacking”, discovered the truth and the two were arrested and a charge of perjury was added to the criminal charges already against them.

Cellphones and a firearm were recovered from them.

The Rietgat SAPS warned the community against taking the law into their own hands and urged them to report crimes, big or small, to the station.
