The Tshwane metro police have nabbed two men suspected of producing fake documents, including death certificates.
One man was arrested in the west and the other in Mabopane on Thursday morning.
Metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said officers stopped a taxi that was driving facing oncoming traffic in Van der Hoff Road around 06:35.
“They requested the driver to produce his driving permit,” he said.
“Upon the inspection of the barcode on the permit, the officers were suspicious.”

Mahamba said the permit was later found to be fake.
“The barcode belonged to a person who doesn’t even possess a driver’s licence,” he said.
“Upon further questioning, the driver led the officers to a house near Mabopane station where he had purchased the documents.”
Mahamba said two men fled the scene when police arrived but another “was found inside and apprehended”.
“Our officers discovered that these suspects were involved in producing other fraudulent documents such as driver’s licences, birth certificates, death certificates, matric certificates and IDs,” he added.
Mahamba said the police had found laptops and computers suspected of being used to produce the fake documents.

“Material from the home affairs and traffic departments were also among the documents found.
“Two men aged 33 and 42 were arrested. The investigation continues and more arrests are expected. The metro police commends the officers for a job well done,” Mahamba said.
