A gang of hijackers is targeting motorists on Lynnwood Road near the Grove mall, the police have warned.
According to Silverton police spokesperson, Captain Jan Sepato, the gang targeted motorists at petrol stations, restaurants drive-thrus and at shops.
Recently two criminals hijacked a motorist from a drive-thru on Lynnwood Road and forced him into the backseat as they fled with him.
The victim was eventually dropped off close to Bronkhorstspruit.

A police manhunt was launched but no arrest had yet been made.
Sepato urged motorists to be vigilant and cautious at all times, especially as criminals considered shoppers soft targets.
“If accosted, motorists should cooperate with the hijackers to avoid being shot, ” he said.
He added that motorists should note that hijackers usually operated in pairs.
Mall spokesperson Monique Harmse assured shoppers and the community that their safety was the mall’s top priority.
She said the Grove had taken all practical steps to a high standard of security.

“Even though the hijacking incidents did not occur on the mall’s premises, we would like to encourage all shoppers to be cautious and alert in any public area; and practise basic safety measures at all times,” she said.
She said avoiding dark areas, being alert to their immediate surrounding and reporting suspicious activity to the police could reduce the risk for the benefit of all.
