The fight against drugs is taking high priority in Eersterust.
At a meeting on Friday the local police, CPF, patrollers and a representative from provincial department of community safety and several NGOs discussed a universal strategy for their fight against the scourge.

Eersterust police spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo said a meeting was also attended by residents of Mabob and D-block and the ward councillor.
“The meeting was meant to, among other things, discuss crime in the two areas that have been rocked by petty offences and property-related crimes due to drug-abuse and drug-dealing,” he said.
Shibambo said the residents were encouraged to report any form of drug activity to the police.
“In line with the theme of the day – save the children – the police urged residents to take back their streets to protect the children from the scourge of drugs and report and shame drugs dealers,” he said.
“Drugs dealers were warned that the time of holding us ransom was over.”
Shibambo said the residents were also encouraged to look after each other’s property and refrain from buying or receiving stolen goods.
“This practice creates a flourishing market for criminals.

“The community appreciated the engagement from the police and vowed to join in the fight against crime,” Shibambo said.
