NEWSFLASH: Daring cash heist on north highway

The nine robbers bombed the van before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A daring cash-in-transit heist took place on the Mabopane highway on Friday morning when robbers shot the tyres of the cash van, forcing it to stop.

Akasia police spokesperson Constable Matsobane Mabusela said the incident happened after the N4 off-ramp just before 09:00.

“A group of armed men started shooting at the tyres of the G4S van which was driving north, forcing it to stop. They forced the guards out of the cash van and ordered them to lie on the ground,” he said.
