UPDATE: Loate police killers still at large

He was killed in his house during a robbery on Wednesday morning.

The killers of the Winterveldt police officer are still at large, the Gauteng police said on Friday.

“The 42-year-old sergeant, Thomas Mashimbye, was shot dead in Winterveldt, north of Pretoria during a house robbery on Wednesday,” said police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo.

“It is alleged he was asleep with his wife and two children, aged 14 and 7 years, when they were attacked by three armed men.

They shot the officer several times in the upper body and he died on the scene. The killers stolen a plasma-screen TV, laptop, two cellphones and cash then fled the scene.

The police have launched a manhunt for the robbers and appeal to anyone with information to contact the nearest police station.”

Masondo condemned the killing and vowed the killers would be arrested.

Mashimbye’s wife and the children were not hurt.

A murder and house robbery docket was open at the Loate police station.
