The missing Phomolong toddler is yet to be found, the police and relatives have confirmed.
The 18-month old Kagiso Abigail Akhile Giqo disappeared while in the care of her minder in the Mamelodi East informal settlement last week.
Police spokesperson Captain Michael Mbewe said the child-minder claimed she left the toddler next to her mother, who was sleeping on a chair in a tavern during a baby shower party.
“We will not rest until the baby is found,” said Mbewe.
“At the moment no one knows what happened to her.”
Mbewe said the mother could not explain when she had seen her child last.
According to her statement to the police, she only realised the child was missing on Monday.

But the baby’s grandmother Rose Ina Phetla said Akhile was last seen on Friday with the minder.
“We found her bag with some nappies in the woman’s [minder] shack,” said Phetla.
“She must just tell the truth about the whereabouts of the child.”
“Life is not the same without her at home.”
“We have searched everywhere and we would like to plead with anyone who knows about Akhile’s whereabouts to come forward.”
“Please bring her back home.”
Mbewe said the police were investigating.
