‘Schoolkid thugs’ leave Centurion family traumatised

“They are just teenagers and committing crimes in school uniforms - what kind of future are they destined for?”

A 41-year old woman from Lyttelton was robbed by “teenage thugs” still in their school uniforms while walking home with her two children.

The woman said she had just collected her children from an aftercare centre and were on their way home on Monday evening when they were attacked by teenagers around the ages of 16 and 17.

The young delinquents took her handbag and her cellphone and ran in the direction of the Lyttelton train station.

“I ran after them and shouted at them to give my house keys back. They eventually dropped my handbag and only fled with my cellphone.”

The woman said she and her children were traumatised.

The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, planned to open a case at the police station on Tuesday “because we need to inform the police when we (are) targeted by criminals”.
