“Most crimes reported in the area are drug-related."

Three men were nabbed with close to R35 000 worth of dagga in Nellmapius recently.

The three arrests made it a total of seven drug-related arrests in Silverton for the past three weeks.

On Friday, two men were arrested in Koedoespoort after they were found in possession of dagga valued at R20 000.

“Most crimes reported in the area are drug-related,” police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato told Rekord.

“In most cases those who commit robberies, steal out of motor vehicles and other violent crimes do it to fund their drug habit.”

Even though dagga was the most common drug in the area, Sepato said police were also on the lookout for other drugs such as nyaope and cocaine.

Police will patrol the area for criminal activity, but need help from the community too.

“Members of the public who have information on drug dealing must please inform the police,” Sepato said.
