Three house robbers were recently sentenced to lengthy jail terms — for a crime they committed almost five years ago.

“The men forcefully entered their house at midnight and overpowered the husband and wife. They locked the wife inside a wardrobe and threatened to shoot the husband before forcing him to lie on the floor,” he said.

“The robbers then ransacked the house and loaded the family’s furniture into the owner’s bakkie.”

Msimango said the men were apprehended by community members and two firearms were confiscated.

The accused were denied bail and remanded in custody until 9 February 2018 when they were found guilty and sentenced.

Msimango said the robbers were each found guilty of house robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Thato Ntabejane (20) was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment; Goodwill Mzwathe Mbatha (19) was jailed to an effective 15-years imprisonment; and Bongane Sibiya (24) got 15 years.
