East robbers threaten one-year-old baby with firearm

Mother robbed outside preschool.

A mother was traumatised after two armed robbers pointed a firearm at her one-year-old baby outside a preschool in Faerie Glen.

The incident happened on Thursday when the woman went to fetch her two other children at the preschool in question.

According to her husband, the robbers waited for his wife to get back to her car.

“She parked in front of the school and the robbers parked right next to her.”

When the woman returned, the robbers confronted her and pointed the gun at the baby as she was busy putting her inside the car, the husband told Rekord.

He said the robbers took the woman’s wedding and engagement rings before fleeing the scene.

“Fortunately no-one was injured.”

The two other children (aged three and five) were present at the time.

“Luckily, the three-year-old did not see anything as he was obstructed by the baby’s car seat,” said the victim’s husband. “The five-year-old girl, however, did hear the robbers speaking to my wife.”

Police spokesperson Captain Coba Brits confirmed a case of armed robbery was opened on Friday at the Garsfontein police station.
