WATCH HERE: Suspect shot dead in attempted cash-in-transit

The transit vehicle was dropping off an undisclosed amount of cash when it was suddenly ambushed by the suspects.

A robber was shot dead during an attempted cash-in-transit heist in Randburg on Tuesday morning.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Tebogo Magoro, the shooting happened just before 10:29 on Kent Avenue and Grove Street.

“On arrival, medics found law enforcement surrounding the area and a helicopter overhead searching for suspects,” he said.

Magoro said shots were fired between the two parties leaving one person in his 30s with fatal injuries.

“The armed robbers abandoned two of the vehicles they were travelling in, in close proximity to the scene, leaving the suspect in one of the cars.”

The robbers then hijacked another vehicle and fled the scene, he added.

The driver of the hijacked vehicle was female and thankfully not injured.
