SOUND CLIP: ‘Killer caught burying victim’

“He tried to run away, but was apprehended by residents."

A man has been arrested for murder after he was spotted on Tuesday trying to bury his victim, Lyttelton police have confirmed.

“The man tried to run away but was apprehended by the residents,” police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller told Rekord.

It was alleged the man and his victim, both employees at the Kerksondermure Church in Centurion, had earlier quarrelled.

Hannes van Aswegen, spokesperson for the church, said the incident was “very tragic and traumatic” and had happened after hours on a property adjacent to the church.

“Management and other employees at the church are still in shock and trying to come to terms with what happened.”
