A 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with his father’s murder in Mamelodi on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Captain Michael Mbewa said the father was brutally murdered in his home.
“It is alleged the deceased overheard [the] suspect and his mother arguing in the house then attempted to intervene to calm the situation,” he said on Friday.

“[But] the suspect allegedly became more angered and grabbed a spade and hacked his father to death.”
Mbewa said the father was rushed to a local hospital where he died upon arrival.
The suspect was arrested for murder and would appear in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court soon, said Mbewa.
