A 72-year-old woman who was hijacked in Centurion was recovering at home.
Two armed men hijacked the woman on Friday in Irene while she was waiting to pick up her grandson from school.
“She was driven to Mamelodi and dumped in an open field,” police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said.

The men escaped in her vehicle.
“Her hands were tied and her shoes were removed, but she was able to make her way to a nearby road and flag a passing vehicle.”
Miller said the occupants of the vehicle helped her to contact her husband.

By then, the police members and other law enforcement agencies were already searching for her. Her husband was with them.
“The police helicopter had also been deployed into the area to assist in the search for her and her vehicle.”
Miller thanked everyone involved who ensured that the woman was safely returned.

He warned residents to remain vigilant at all time.
“Especially when you are driving into your driveway – never let your guard down,” he said.
“If you suspect that you are being followed, rather drive around the block to make sure.”
He added that residents should contact the police if they still felt unsafe or felt threatened.
