East elderly man attacked in his own home

“The medical team did everything they could, but unfortunately he succumbed to his wounds.”

An 82-year-old man died after a robber attacked him in his home in the east of Pretoria.

Police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said the attack happened in Maynard Road, Garsfontein around 11:00 on Saturday.

Miller said it appeared that the man was in bed when the robber entered his home.

The police suspected that an iron bar was used in the attack.

The man sustained injuries to his head and upper body.

After the robber left, the man managed to phone his friend for help.

“When the friend got to the house, he informed all the necessary people of the attack,” Miller said.

The man was taken to Pretoria East Hospital in a critical condition.

“The medical team did everything they could, but unfortunately he succumbed to his wounds.”

A case of murder and house robbery has been opened at the Garsfontein police station.
