Police in the Tshwane east policing cluster arrested 98 suspects over the weekend.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo said police officers embarked on crime prevention operations on Friday.
He said this was in order to address the problematic crimes in their respective policing precincts.

“Most operations were focused on tracing wanted suspects and enforcing the liquor act and the road traffic act.”
Shibambo said during the operations, two stolen vehicles and a motorcycle were recovered at a house in section J, Mamelodi.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a grey Audi Quattro was reported stolen at Brooklyn early this year, a blue Toyota Tazz was also reported stolen at Pretoria central and a motorcycle was reported stolen in Villieria.

“Since there were only underage children in the house and no one could account for the vehicles, the police took the vehicles to a police pound for further investigation.”
Shibambo said 17 suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Eleven of the suspects were arrested at roadblocks in the Mamelodi east area.

“A handful of suspects were also arrested for drug-related crimes such as possession of drugs and dagga.”
Shibambo said the majority of the suspects were arrested for crimes such as rape, domestic violence, theft and malicious damage to property.
The suspects will appear in the various courts around the cluster on Monday.
