The Mamelodi police vowed this week not to rest until they uncover the truth about how two Mamelodi toddlers got hold of the poisoned sweets that killed them.
“We are working night and day with the investigation,” said Mamelodi West police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso. “We will not stop until the case has been solved.”
He said police were still awaiting autopsy results and had not made any arrest but were questioning people.
Lungile (5) and Faith (3) Nkosi were buried in a solemn ceremony at the Heatherly cemetery two weeks ago.
Their mysterious deaths shocked both their family and the community of Mamelodi.

According to family, on 28 February the two children asked their mother Ria to unwrap the sweets they had.
They returned outside to continue playing but soon Faith came back into the house complaining a sweet was stuck in her throat.
Her mother tried to dislodge the sweet before rushing her to hospital but the toddler died on the way.
The family said Lungile started vomiting shortly after Faith was rushed to the hospital. Neighbours were called to help him but he died at home.
The shocked family described the deaths as “senseless”.
Local councillor Percy Zitha offered the family with groceries and buses for the funeral. He also paid for the graves.

Zitha said he was pleased the community had shown love and support to the family.
He said residents had donated an undisclosed amount of money to the family while local undertaker Sello Mashile offered his services for free including the coffins, a tent, chairs, groceries, hearses and flowers.
Zitha said the children would be missed by their mother Ria, sister Meisie (12), brother Philimon (7) “and the entire community”.
