Pretoria North police are concerned about regular reports of armed robberies and theft of and out of vehicles.
Police spokesperson Captain Rebecca Phatlane said police were implementing new strategies to ensure the safety of the community.
“But we need our community to work with us. A proactive approach is what’s needed to prevent crimes,” said Phatlane.
“It is necessary that everyone takes extra precaution, be alert and report crimes in their area.”
Phatlane said Pretoria North residents had to remain on the lookout for suspicious activities and vehicles.
“If you see suspicious people or vehicles – especially vehicles without number plates – call your nearest police station or community watch group. Get involved with CPF and crime alert groups.
“The more alert and informed people are about what’s going on around them the better,” she said.
“Police will continue operations in the CBD, near shopping centres and all other crime hotspots.”
Phatlane said apart from vehicle thefts, police remained concerned about the number of gate motor and water meter thefts reported in residential areas.
Crimes and emergencies can be reported by calling 10111 or sending an SMS to 32211.
Phatlane reminded residents that perjury was a serious crime. “Anyone reporting false information, wasting police resources, will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
