Two men were arrested about an hour after they reportedly hijacked a bakkie from a police officer in Pretoria West.
The two men, both 21-years old, were found in possession of the Toyota Hilux in Sunnyside.
The officer was not hurt in the incident, said police.
The suspects were also found with an unlicensed handgun and ammunition.
Meanwhile, police had various successes in their 24-hour Operation Fiela, according to police spokesman Captain Daniel Mavimbela.
The operation was held in Sunnyside since midday on Wednesday and was launched by Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga.

During the operation, a man was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm.
“Students from a local high school must be commended for alerting the police to a suspicious 32-year-old man who was hanging around a residential area not far from the school,” said Mavimbela.
“Following a swift response, the police recovered a firearm and ammunition upon the suspect’s arrest.”
Over 2.5 million litres of alcohol were also seized from a local night club operating without a license.
Elsewhere in Sunnyside, a 22-year-old student was caught in possession of a stolen laptop that belonged to his former flatmate.
All the suspects are expected to be charged for various offences and appear before the Pretoria magistrate’s court soon.
