Silverton police have launched a manhunt following an attack on a cash-in-transit vehicle on Tuesday evening.
Police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela said the robbery happened along Petroleum Road in Waltloo, Silverton.
“It is believed that a group of about 14 suspects fired shots and forced the cash van off the road before using explosives on the vehicle,” he said.
“The suspects were travelling in three vehicles, Mercedes Benz, Toyota Fortuner and a BMW.”

Mavimbela said the Toyota Fortuner was recovered at the scene.
“Information suggests that the driver of the cash-in-transit vehicle was assaulted during the attack and is being treated at a local hospital.”
Mavimbela said investigation would reveal if cash was stolen during the attack.
