"We can confirm that there was no dumping of sewage into the Hennops River."
There was no dumping of sewage into the Hennops River, Tshwane metro assured residents on Thursday.
This comes after a video clip was circulated on social media showing a waste vehicle next to the river.
“The metro can confirm that there was no dumping of sewage into the Hennops River. The video clip that was circulating on social media this week was a waste vehicle with onboard equipment preparing to unblock a sewer,” said city spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.
He said the truck belonged to Averda Sight Lines, a division of Averda South Africa specialising in CCTV pipe inspections and pipe cleaning.

“The Tshwane water and sanitation department in region 4 identified a surcharging manhole along Hennops River. The city contracted Averda to investigate and unblock the sewer causing the surcharge and to mitigate the environmental risk.”
Mashigo said the truck pumps high-pressure water-jetting into the sewer via a manhole to unblock it.
He said a concrete block was found to be the cause of the blockage and progress was being made to remove it.
“We are confident Averda is compliant with operating practices of the city.”
He said the city would always comply with the standards of discarding sewage without risking the health of residents.
