Strike results in Pretoria waste removal delays

Pretoria residents are still asked to leave their garbage bins out for collection.

Pretoria residents were asked to still leave their garbage bins out for collection, despite an ongoing city-wide strike by refuse removal subcontractors.

“Refuse removal was taking place, but slower than usual”, DA ward councillor Elma Nel told Rekord.

Nel said she was informed by the Tshwane metro that emergency teams were deployed in the affected areas.

There had, however, been reports of emergency teams being threatened by the striking workers, she said.

“We also ask that residents remember to take their bins back inside at night to minimise the chances of any theft,” she said

Nel asked for residents’ patience during the strike, which had been marked by reports of intimidation.

“We hope that this issue will be resolved soon and that everything will be back to normal,” she said.
