Plug points

Maintaining and updating plug points is a good idea, regardless of the season. You can check that your points are all working by checking your mains board. Electrical boards have a standard design, and it’s important to familiarise yourself with the layout (trying to figure this out in the dark will be tough). Switch off all appliances and plugs, and then press the earth leakage button. Your electricity should immediately shut down, which is what it would do in the case of an electrical leak. If your electrical current continues flowing and the electricity stays on, then you will need to contact an electrician.

Heaters

Electrical heaters rely on high resistance elements to produce heat. High resistance translates into an increased demand for electrical energy, which, in turn, has an unpleasant effect on your utility bill. Over time, sediment builds up in geysers owing to the dissolved solids found in our water supply: for example, calcium. To achieve optimum results from your expenditure on your geyser’s kilowatt hours, cleaning out blockages in the system is necessary. LED lights

One extremely effective way to cut down on electricity usage is to replace high wattage downlights with more efficient LEDs. LEDs have several advantages, including a truly impressive lifespan and electricity usage that’s a small fraction of that used for older downlights (which give off large amounts of heat). Before installation, however, double check your downlight electricity supply transformer – inappropriately high voltages will damage the LEDs.
