Congregants donate shoes to needy learners

Teachers identified the needy children, took their sizes an passed the information on.

Fourteen Koos Matli Primary School learners will no longer worry about going to school in worn old school shoes.

The children recently recipients of a donation by members of Amadodana ase Wesele Moreleta Circuit Church last Tuesday.

Church member Peter Mlambo said he was driving to work one morning when he noticed a child walking to school in torn shoes and stopped him to ask which school he attended.

“He said ‘Koos Matli’… that’s how I learned of the school,” said Mlambo adding he had been touched.

“I knew one of the teachers at the school as my fellow church member so I asked her to identify children who needed shoes and give him the number.

“Teachers took the sizes and passed the information to me.

Mlambo said he then approached fellow congregants for donations to buy the shoes.

Congregant and Koos Matli teacher Christina Mamogobo said she was happy Mlambo had stopped when he noticed the learner with the worn shoes “it shows there are good people out there who still care for others”.

“He is actually a good Samaritan and he stopped asking the child where he was schooling.”

Principal John Ngoepe thanked the donors on behalf of the parents and the learners.

“Most of the learners her come from underprivileged families…we are humbled by the generosity,” he said

The beneficiaries excitedly promised to keep their shoes shiny.
