UPDATE: Pretoria North fraudster fails to appear in court

The Pretoria North swindler pleaded guilty to four counts of theft.

A Pretoria North woman, who has pleaded guilty to four charges of fraud, failed to appear in court on Thursday due to an apparent illness.

Marita Grobler pleaded guilty to four counts of theft last month.

On Thursday morning, four complainants who said Grobler had tricked them in house scams waited for hours at Pretoria North magistrate’s court only to be informed that the case had once again been postponed.

The matter will now be heard on 26 July.

“There’s always some excuse for the case to be postponed,” one of her alleged theft victims told Rekord outside the court.

The woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, said she felt angry that the case was still dragging on after almost a year.

Grobler was arrested in November last year after police received information that she had conned a prospective buyer in a housing scam.

The victim’s father previously told Rekord that his daughter had paid a deposit on a house Grobler was “selling”.

“Maybe it was the low price of the house, but something made me wonder if it wasn’t a scam,” he said.

The father then also pretended to be interested in the house, and Grobler allegedly tried to sell him the same property.

Grobler was previously convicted for theft and fraud in 2011 and 2014.
