New playgrounds for Sosh primary on Mandela Day

HM Pitjie Foundation launched new playgrounds at Arethabeng Primary School in Block L as part of the 67 minutes of Mandela day.

Arethabeng primary school in Soshanguve block L received new playgrounds from the HM Pitjie Foundation as part of the 67 minutes for Mandela Day.

The foundation, based in Sandton, provides both funding and assistance required for the development of township schools around Tshwane and Polokwane.

Founded in 2011 by Khudusela Pitjie in honour of his late father, Pitjie, the foundation affords learners the tools they needed to succeed.

The school received a new jungle gym named dot.com, a name of an organisation that sponsored the foundation with gym material.

According to Kgomotso Pitjie, Khudusela’s wife who is a former student of Arethabeng primary school, learners should play a lot and make use of the school environment as it helps them mentally and physically.

“School is a place that we all should be looking forward to. With education, we can be happier and smarter. I am proud to be a product of Arethabeng and to be able to give back,” said Pitjie.

The school had previously received assistance in developing their school such as planting lawn in the grade R play area, renovation of school toilets and painting the administration block roof and tiles, according to the school principal, Moses Moleshiwa.

“We are thankful and we promise to take care of all these things that you have given to us. We acknowledge the promise you made to us of Wi-Fi and swimming pool and our learners are looking forward to making use of them,” said Moleshiwa

Ward 36 councillor, Elsie Tshabalala said HM Pitjie loves children like the late Tata Nelson Mandela did, especially those from less privileged wards like ward 36.

Tshabalala said that the foundation proved to be empathetic towards children in the ward.

“Thank you for recognising an indigent ward like ours that has a large number of disadvantaged people.

“We are also very proud that HM Pitjie founders are from here. You set a very good example to the community and to our kids, because happy kids mean a happy community,” said Tshabalala.

“With your support we will raise educated children away from the streets.”
