Moot organisation helps children in need

TLC bags are distributed to kids monthly to enable them to take care of their personal hygiene.

A Moot organisation has partnered with Royal Embassy of Thailand to spread some tender-loving care.

Lené van Wyk said her Prism of Hope and the embassy visited five local schools and Dynamic Women for Children in Kameelfontein to deliver toiletries as their outreach project for Mandela Month.

Van Wyk said thanks to a donation by the embassy, they were able to pack 98 small boxes full of toiletries for children at Laerskool Boerefort, Laerskool Rietfontein-Noord, HTS John Vorster, Hoërskool Oos-Moot and Laerskool Voorpos.

“The TLC boxes were handed over to the schools to assist learners, male and female, who cannot afford toiletry items,” she said.

“Thereafter we went to Kameelfontein to visit Dynamic Women for Children who take care of 52 children from the age of 4 years.”

She said the embassy had collected groceries, cleaning products and clothes from donors in Thailand.

Acting ambassador Paisit Boonparlit donated cash.

Van Wyk said the embassy celebrated its 25-year relationship with South Africa this year, as well as the 66th birthday of Thai king Vijiralongkorn on 28 July.

Non-profit organisation Prism of Hope distributes the bags to poor learners monthly basis.

“We currently work with the above schools and from August Laerskool Wonderboom-Suid will be the sixth school,” she said.

“We are 100% dependent on donations to be able to deliver the much needed service.”

Van Wyk thanked Laerskool Villieria, Laerskool Riviera, Pretoria Technical High School, Impact Independent School from Alberton, Laerskool Boerefort, Laerskool Voorpos and Hoërskool Oos-Moot for their donations.

“Without your contributions Prism of Hope will not be able to assist those in need,” she said.

She said from January 2019, Prism of Hope would launch a financial literacy programme to teach children to become financially sustainable.

Prism of Hope invites business owners and individuals to become involved in Prism of Hope’s TLC Bag project,” Van Wyk said.

“Any toiletry item donation is welcome, even if it is a bar of soap. It all adds up.”
