A Moot woman has been the latest casualty in the H1N1 virus outbreak, reports have claimed.
It was reported that the woman was admitted to hospital complaining of flu-like symptoms later diagnosed as swine-flu.
She later died due to severe lung damage.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said 536 influenza cases had been treated from May to the second week of July and “the majority – 523 or 97.6% – have been influenza A (H1N1) pdm09, the strain sometimes incorrectly referred to as swine flu”.
According to the NICD, the current influenza season was moderate compared to previous years.

In March, Suné Gerber (2) passed away in a Pretoria hospital after battling five viruses, two of which were swine flu and a respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
The NICD urged patients to consult a medical professional as it was difficult to distinguish between the common influenza viruses and swine flu.
Influenza symptoms that are usually self-diagnosable:
– Fever
– Chills
– Muscle aches
– Coughing
– Congestion
– Runny nose
– Headaches
– Fatigue
According to the NICD, the symptoms for swine flu include:
– Sudden onset of fever
– A dry cough, sore throat
– Headaches
– Muscle pains
– Sometimes vomiting and diarrhea
– Chills
– Fatigue
