Acting national executive director of the college, Eugene Modiri, who is visually impaired, said the education system was excluding blind people.
“There’s a need for specialised tertiary institutions for the blind, because at the moment universities and colleges are not well resourced to cater for the needs of the blind.”
Life Healthcare said the decision to donate to the college was informed by the role the institution played in bridging the gap left by the country’s higher education institution.

“Our approach is to drive strategically relevant programmes that complement shortfalls in healthcare services and training in South Africa both at national level with community involvement at grass roots level,” Viranna said.
Social development deputy minister Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu commended Life Healthcare for its contribution.
