Fundraiser held to assist needy children
The event, organised by Vision24 Music, was held under the theme One Hit Wonders.
A local music school held a fundraiser in aid of a Potato Foundation school bag project at the weekend.
The Tassie fundraiser themed One Hit Wonders was organised by Vision24 Music at Rockhood theatre in the Parkview Mall on Saturday.
“Every end of the year [in November], we would like to give every underprivileged learner a brand new schoolbag filled with the necessary stationery to enter the brand new school year, especially our grade R learners who are off to the ‘big school’ the following year,” said Werner Louw of Vision24.

He said last year school bags were provided to other learners besides the Gr Rs.
“We succeeded in giving out 110 schoolbags. Inside these schoolbags where items such as Pritt, scissors, pencil bag, ruler, sharpener, eraser, crayons, lunch box and water bottle.
“We were even able to add a little extra like a colouring book and a brand new Bible as part of our Earth Apple Project.”
He said the schools that would benefit this year included Sunrise day care centre and MYDO aftercare centre both from Gomora informal settlement, Happy Hour from the city centre, Kanana Kids from Proclamation Hill, Westerlig Primary School and Generaal Beyers Primary School in Danville and Olievenhoutbosch Christian School.
“The aim is to help around 200 children with school bags filled with stationery.”

NPO Potato Foundation was founded in 2007 “to focus on the neglected and forgotten children”.
“The Potato Foundation aims to be the roots within our community sustaining and nurturing the upliftment and empowerment of children to give them an opportunity to take their rightful place in society.”
