Illegal dumping in Viviers Street in Danville is a concern again, according to a local activist.
“It started up again after it died down at the beginning of the year,” said local resident and South Africa Civics Organisation (Sanco) member Ricardo Daubern.
“It is now worse than ever and really getting out of hand.”

“Something needs to be done urgently.”
Illegal dumping at this field started in October 2016 and despite numerous attempts to clean up the field, the illegal dumping continued.
Daubern said the illegal dumping is not only an unsightly, but also gives a bad smell.

“We have terrible problems with flies and other pests we never had in the past.”
Daubern said rubbish scattered across the street from their house, varies from building material to garbage.
“I have seen trucks of prominent businesses throwing away their garbage there in the past,” he said.

He also expressed his concern over the long grass in the field.
“Vagrants can easily hide there. It is really destroying our once safe haven,” he said.
“We no longer know what to do.”
