Two dogs that surprised the killers of a woman in Kameeldrift at the weekend were also fatally wounded.
This was confirmed by Afriforum safety head Ian Cameron.
“The family’s two dogs, a labrador and a smaller crossbreed, surprised the attackers after which they were both shot.”
The labrador died on the scene while the other died later.
Marlet Entres (61) was killed when three robbers who had forcibly gained entry into her house. They shot her in the upper body.
“They fired a shot into her chest when she got up,” said Cameron.
She died on the scene.

Cameron said the robbers gained entry into the house by breaking a window with an axe they found in a tool shed.
“They broke down the flat bar burglar-proofing with a shifting spanner.”
Marlet’s husband Manie (62) was woken up at gunpoint before he was tied up.
“His hands were tied with his cellphone’s charger cable,” Cameron said.
The robbers then moved to the room of the couple’s daughter, where she was with their grandchild.
“They too were tied down with cellphone charger cables,” Cameron said.
“The robbers then proceed to the safe where they removed two firearms – a 38 special revolver and .45 pistol.
“Manie managed to free himself but was kicked when he tried to go back to them,” he said.
The robbers got away with cell phones, tablets, two firearms and a small amount of money before fleeing with Manie’s vehicle.
The elderly couple were involved in community safety in their area and Manie was the vice-chairperson of the Roodeplaat fire protection association.
“Marlet and her husband Manie were dedicated to serving the community of Kameeldrift and Buffelsdrif,” DA MP Adriana Randall said.
“The community has lost a hero who was involved in, and supported all the community’s initiatives.

“My deepest condolences to her family, relatives, friends and the community of Kameeldrift and Buffelsdrif.”
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said this week police were still searching for the robbers.
He appealed to anyone with information on the crime to call the nearest police station or crime stop on 08600-10111.
