East home struck by lightning, one injured

The resident suffered burns to his arms and upper body.

A man was seriously injured when his Wingate Park home, east of Pretoria, was struck by lightning on Friday.

According to Brinant security’s response team, the incident happened just after midnight.

“On arrival, it was determined that the client’s premises suffered a direct lightning strike and the house was on fire. The fire was fortunately extinguished prior to the fire department arriving by Brinant’s reaction officers, ” said spokesperson Martin Barnard.

Barnard said a resident suffered burns to his arms and upper body.

“He was taken to hospital in a stable condition.”

Well done to the officers for their dedication and rapid response, said Barnard.
