A motorist travelling from Pretoria was seriously wounded on Thursday before he was robbed of gold worth millions of rands.
Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele said the victim was on his way to Primrose in a bakkie when he was attacked.

“An unknown number of suspects, driving a silver Mercedes Benz, started shooting at the man until he had to stop,” he said.
“They just kept on shooting.”
Makhubele said the attackers took a box containing gold bars from the front seat before fleeing from the scene.
He said the gold was worth R5 million.

The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
An armed robbery and attempted murder docket had been opened by the police, who are investigating.
