VIDEO: New bust for Paul Kruger’s grave in Pretoria
This follows after his grave was vandalised in July this year.

It was decided to sculpt a new bust for the grave of former president Paul Kruger, instead of repairing the one which was vandalised earlier this year.
This follows after Jacques Müller, a sculptor from Centurion, sculpted an entirely new bust by using several photographs and images of Kruger as a reference.
Müller made the bust out of his own pocket.

The new bust was unveiled at the Heroes Acres cemetery on Wednesday morning.
It was the second time that Kruger’s grave was vandalised.
The grave was first vandalised in 1995.

In the previous attack, the bust fell on a granite block and cracked.

“The marble statue was replaced with one made of glass fiber following the attack,” said the Federation of Afrikaans Cultural Associations (FAK) spokesperson Seugnet van Zyl.
“Jacques approached the FAK to restore the damaged bust and to create a brand new image,” said Van Zyl.

Müller says it is not a “classic anatomical image” of Kruger, but rather “simply stylized”.
The damaged bust of Kruger will now be stored at the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria.
