The Tshwane metro has stepped up efforts to reduce water losses and improve service delivery in Ward 20 in Mabopane through its ongoing #ThibaDiLeaks campaign, with Water and Sanitation teams repairing multiple water leaks and sewer spillages in the area.
MMC for Utilities Frans Boshielo visited the ward alongside officials from the Water and Sanitation Business Unit and Ward 20 Councillor Neo Mocumi to inspect reported infrastructure problems and ensure that repairs were carried out without delay.

According to Boshielo, the inspection formed part of the metro’s commitment to addressing water losses and improving the quality of life for residents.
He confirmed that several leaks and sewer spillages were successfully repaired during the operation as part of the #ThibaDiLeaks programme.
Boshielo also acknowledged that more work remains and announced that dedicated repair teams will return to Ward 20 to continue addressing outstanding leaks.
“Given the number of reported leaks in the area, dedicated teams will continue their work next week to further reduce water losses and improve service delivery,” he said.
Boshielo explained that the intervention is aimed at tackling one of the metro’s biggest challenges: water losses caused by ageing infrastructure and leaking pipes.
He added that reducing unnecessary water consumption is essential to protecting the metro’s critical water infrastructure while promoting environmental sustainability.
“This intervention forms part of our ongoing efforts to decrease high water consumption caused by leakages, protect critical infrastructure, conserve water, and ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for our residents,” he said.

The campaign also encourages residents to play their part by reporting leaks promptly and using water responsibly.
Block C resident Nomthandazo Mtshweni said, “It is encouraging to see repair teams on the ground. Water has been running down some of our streets for days at a time, and we hope the metro continues until every leak has been fixed.”
She said the repairs would benefit both residents and the environment.
“Every drop of water counts, especially with the pressure on our water supply. If these repairs continue and residents also report leaks quickly, we can make a real difference,” she said.
The #ThibaDiLeaks campaign is an initiative by the metro to improve municipal service delivery, conserve water and respond more rapidly to infrastructure faults.
Boshielo called on residents to work together with the municipality to safeguard water resources. “Together, we can save water and build a more sustainable Tshwane.”
