Centurion criminals target water meters, gate motors

“We have received several reports whereby the victim would find water leaking at his or her premises,” said Wierdabrug police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma.

Only after closer inspection would it become apparent that a water meter had been stolen.

“Most of the thefts have been reported as happening at night,” said Huma.

In other cases, thefts happened while no-one was home.

“We are calling on the community to be vigilant. If you see someone in your neighbourhood who appears to be tampering with these appliances, please report it to police.”

Anyone with more information can contact police at 0860-010-111 or their nearest police station.
