Erasmuskloof street turns into river
“Water had been running down the street since Sunday.”
Angry residents in Erasmuskloof said thousands of litres water had gone to waste after a water leak appeared on Sunday.
Water had been flooding Goukamma Street, one of the residents told Rekord on Wednesday.
“For four days straight, water has been running down the road,” the upset resident said.
“According to my calculations, I estimate that around three million litres have already gone to waste – which is unacceptable in an area where water use is restricted.”
Ward councillor Francois Bekker said he could sympathise with the residents and shared their frustrations.
“I have reported the water leak to the highest authorities, but so far the problem persists,” Bekker said.
“A main water supply pipe had burst and there seems to be a communication problem between the water department and Tshwane repair teams.”
Tshwane metro could not immediately be reached for comment on the matter.
Bekker said he also reported the leak to the city’s mayor.
“I hope that the problem will soon be resolved.”
