With the general election drawing closer, there might be a few things voters need to attend to before they will be able to hit the polls.
Here is some information voters may find useful:
If you have not registered to vote, you still have a chance to visit your local IEC offices and apply for registration.
It is impossible to vote in an election if one’s name does not appear on the voters’ roll.
What you need to register is a green bar-coded South African ID book, smartcard ID, or valid temporary identity certificate.

A passport, driver’s licence, certified copy of ID or any other form of identification will not be accepted.
If you are unable to travel, you can contact the local IEC office responsible for your voting district regarding special registration at your location.
To find out where your area’s voting station is, visit the IEC website on https://maps.elections.org.za/vsfinder/ and click on the area where you live.
The voting station finder will indicate which voting station you should go to.
You can change your voting station after the voters’ roll for an election closes by making an appointment to re-register at the local IEC office responsible for your voting district at any time.
But you can’t change your details for an election once the voters’ roll for that election has closed.
Elections will be held on 8 May and all citizens who are 18 years and older are encouraged to cast their vote.
