Power had still not been restored in Centurion by early Saturday afternoon, following a substation that caught fire after it was struck by lightning on Friday evening.
DA ward councillor Kingsley Wakelin said the team was busy with mop-up operations at the Brakfontein substation.
“We have appointed an external service provider who is already busy testing the remaining two transformers,” he said.

“If they are in a good condition we would be able to switch back most of the areas whilst we busy repairing the two damaged transformers.”
He said however that this they would only know late on Saturday night or early tomorrow morning, “if all goes well”.
“If the two transformers are not able to be restored, the repairs could take between four to seven working days,” he said.

“We hope and pray that these transformers are able to take the load.”
Wakelin said the second transformer blew at around 2:00 on Saturday morning as officials were trying to restore it.
“We request residents not to visit the site as it is a restricted area,” he said.

“We need to give the teams space to do their work.”
He said an update would be provided as soon as test results were available.
