Two house robbery suspects chased down, arrested in Centurion

“Witnesses immediately alerted the local authorities who swiftly responded."

Two suspected house robbers were arrested following a chase in Centurion on Wednesday.

The suspects allegedly broke into a house in Gerhadsville in the afternoon, said Erasmia police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto.

A cellphone and a firearm were among the items they stole.

“Residents who witnessed the incident immediately alerted the local authorities who swiftly responded. Soon the police spotted a suspicious red Honda Jazz speeding along the M26 road,” he said.

Moloto said a chase ensued and the suspects were cornered and two men were arrested while a third escaped.

“Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Norkem Park in 2018.”

A case of house robbery and possession of suspected stolen property was opened at the Erasmia police station. The duo are expected to appear in the Atteridgeville magistrate’s court soon.

Moloto thanked the community of Gerhadsville for helping with the arrest of the two robbers.

“We want to enhance our relationship with the community and in the process, we can help each other eradicate crime in the area and catch the third suspect,” he said.
