18 suspects arrested in the east

Arrests were made for various crimes ranging from common assaults, robbery, malicious damage to property, shoplifting, fraud violation of protection orders and assault to theft out of motor vehicles.

A total of 18 people were arrested in Mamelodi on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Captain Michael Mbewe said the arrests were arrested for various crimes ranging from common assaults, robbery, malicious damage to property, shoplifting, fraud violation of protection orders and assault to theft out of motor vehicles.

He said the suspects, aged between 18 and 48, and held at different police stations in Mamelodi, were arrested during the ongoing operations in the area.

He further said the operation would continue around Mamelodi until the area becomes a crime-free zone.

Mbewe said the police are expecting to make more arrests and advised the public to report any suspicious person to the police on 08600-10-111.
