Police are searching for the mother, whose newly-born baby was found dumped at New Eersterust near Hammanskraal.
The infant was found in a black refuse bag in New Eersterust on February 19.
Police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said this week that the baby was in a jovial mood and responding well to treatment after he was hospitalised for medical treatment.

“Police were called to the scene in front of a tuck shop in the area at around 05:00 after a community member heard a baby crying wrapped in plastic,” said Moremi.
The residents immediately contacted police and emergency services who came and took the baby to hospital.
“Police opened a case of child abandonment. At this moment the child is responding well and progressing.”
Moremi said the police’s family violence child protection and sexual offence unit was still searching for the mother who apparently dumped the newborn baby boy.
“Police are appealing to anyone with information about the whereabouts of the mother to come forward. Anyone who is aware of someone who was recently pregnant, but does not have a child is asked to assist police,” said Moremi.
