The police have pleaded with all stakeholders in the fight against domestic abuse and violence to step up their effort.
Speaking following a successful campaign in Ga-Rankuwa recently where various stakeholders came together to tackle the critical issue that affects mainly women and children, police spokesperson Captain Matthews Nkoadi said domestic violence and abuse in the community needed to be uprooted.
“Ga-Rankuwa SAPS in partnership with the youth desk and the victim empowerment centre were engaged in yet another successful awareness campaign,” he said.

Nkoadi said the police distributed 1 500 pamphlets at the Ga-Rankuwa shopping complex as the focal point of the awareness campaign.
“The aim was to reach out to the community as well as the school children before they go for recess,” he said.
He said the information in the pamphlets included general safety tips, and in particular to warn locals about the dense bush behind the shopping centre.
“Bullying at schools, domestic violence as well as sexual offences were some of the issues touched on.”
The campaign also reached a number of community members who flocked to the stall to seek more clarity on other policing issues.
“These activities are intended to continue throughout until the goal of decreasing crime in the Ga-Rankuwa policing area is reached,” Nkoadi said.
