A social media advertisement inviting prospective students to sign up to join the traffic college is fake, the RTMC has said this week.
In a statement released on Monday night the road traffic management corporation warned the public “about a scam targeting young people seeking training opportunities as traffic officers”.
“The message in circulation invites applicants to sign contracts with the RTMC at an address on Main Road, Loveday in Johannesburg at the Metropolitan building.”

Spokesperson Simon Zwane said the subject heading on the message was “Approval Letter and Induction Invitation”.
“We wish to further advice members of the public to report such scams to law enforcement agencies.”
He said it was common cause that, these fake messages required people to make payments in order to commence work.
“As a public institution we do not charge applicants for any employment opportunities within the organisation.”
Furthermore, employment opportunities within the RTMC are advertised on the organisation’s official website (www.rtmc.co.za) or through a reputable newspaper.
“Members of the public who wish to verify the legitimacy of any message purported to be from the RTMC can contact our human capital department on 012-999-5200,” said Zwane.
