Hundreds of mourners turned up for the memorial service of the Centurion man stabbed to death in his Eldoraigne home last week at the Ewige Lig church in Montana Park, Pretoria.
Herman Scholtz (59) was killed allegedly by a 26-year-old man armed with a number of knives.
His brother Hein Scholtz said family and friends together with people from neighbouring countries attended the service.

“Herman used to travel to neighbouring African countries for work and he knew a lot of people from there,” Hein said, estimating that a few hundred mourners attended.
“It was very uplifting for the family to see the high attendance. We are very grateful for everyone’s ongoing support.”
Hein told mourners at the service that he since he had not had a chance to “talk” to his brother after his death, he had undertaken to run the Om die Dam ultra-marathon at Hartebeespoort dam on Saturday “just to talk to him”.
“I spent the six hours and 45 minutes it took me to complete the 50km race talking to my brother.”
Last Sunday morning an assailant, believed to be Scholtz’s gardener, gained entry to an Eldoraigne security complex apartment where he lived and stabbed him several times in the chest in full view of a neighbour who had responded to his screams for help.

Unfortunately, the neighbour found the security gate locked and was therefore unable to access the apartment.
“He could only standby and watch as Scholtz was being stabbed,” it was said.
A private security company and the Wierdabrug police later arrived after being alerted by neighbours.
“They forced their way into the apartment and apprehended the assailant,” said Hein.
